<p>The <strong>Acid Phosphatase – Total</strong> test measures the total level of <strong>acid phosphatase</strong>, an enzyme found in various tissues of the body, including the <strong>prostate, liver, spleen, red blood cells, platelets, and bones</strong>. Under normal conditions, only small amounts of this enzyme are present in the bloodstream. Elevated levels may indicate tissue damage or certain medical conditions affecting these organs.</p><p>Although this test has largely been replaced by more specific laboratory tests for many conditions, it may still be used in selected clinical situations to help evaluate prostate disorders, bone diseases, certain blood disorders, and other conditions associated with increased acid phosphatase activity.</p>
